MENSCHEN Starts IndieGoGo Campaign for Film Promotion/Festival Fees
An ambitious new independent film, MENSCHEN, has just released a new line of memorabilia products like bumper stickers, mugs, t-shirts, and more to help raise money for the film’s promotion. The film is aimed at over fifty-film festivals world wide over the next two years. “This approach has never been attempted on this level by filmmakers in Colorado. We’re really excited about our store. It’s a great way to support our film and Colorado filmmaking as a whole,” says the film’s producer Anastasia Cummings.
MENSCHEN was filmed entirely in Colorado. An international Austrian-American effort, the film focuses on the plight of a Wehrmacht captain and his men during the final days of World War II. In their effort to escape the Soviets, the mostly Austrian soldiers come upon a developmentally disabled Czech boy, testing their loyalty, integrity, and humanity, as well as bringing to light a secret from the captain’s past, which blurs the line between “perpetrator” and “victim.”
The movie has received a huge amount of praise and anticipation from the German- and Austrian-American communities in Colorado as well as from the Disabled communities around the world.
As an independent film, MENSCHEN has operated on a very low budget, relying on the donations of public enthusiasts, such as Robert von Dassanowsky of Belvedere Film, the co-founder of Austrian American Film Association and a member of the Austrian Academy of Film, as well as strangers who have recognized the very human and accessible message presented by the film.
Sarah Lotfi, the award-winning writer-director of MENSCHEN, stated that “Even with all this blossoming for the film, it is still a low-budget independent film and we are at the point where we need to find the funding to continue its journey.”
The average cost of submitting to a film festival is $70 after paying for the entry fees, shipping, screeners, press kits, and exhibition materials. Many product purchases are needed to cover costs for the film. The return from a purchase ranges from $2-$8 depending on the item. The online store has an array of collectables from bumper stickers to t-shirts, profits from which are used to promote MENSCHEN as well as Colorado filmmaking as a whole. They range in price from $6.49 to $49.99.
