Local Filmmaker Brings NYC Subway Musician Documentary BUSKING THE SYSTEM to Theaters Nationwide
(ARLINGTON, MA.) –– BUSKING THE SYSTEM – a new full-length documentary film which critics have called “entertaining and compelling” – is taking its real-life story of New York City subway musicians to movie theaters across the country.
The film by Connecticut director/producer Justin Michael Morales was screened at the Silk City Flick Fest in Hartford, and is now being distributed to a series of select theaters nationwide.
BUSKING THE SYSTEM follows the real-life journeys of three talented young singer/songwriter guitarists who come from around the U.S. to pursue their passion as “buskers” – or street performers – in the bustling New York City subway system.
The film is filled with stunning musicianship and original songs, and also includes insightful comments from experienced buskers and experts who weigh in on the historical, legal and practical challenges of making a living below NYC.
Local Busking Advocate is part of BUSKING THE SYSTEM
Stephen Baird of Buskers Advocate was also part of the feature documentary. Mr. Baird is a Busker and his website focuses on “Celebrating self-expression as a basic human right essential for the healthy growth of youth, individuals and communities”.
Professor Alexander Case an Assistant Professor of Sound Recording Technology UMASS Lowell was also showcased in the documentary BUSKING THE SYSTEM and explains how the acoustics of the subway are a unique experience.
Mr. Baird and Mr. Case will be part of our Questions and Answers after the screening at The Regent Theatre.

Morales is an independent filmmaker from Manchester, Conn., who has lived, worked and traveled all over the world. He graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and has built a career in independent film, both in front of and behind the camera. He has also worked on major studio films including the “The Hours.”
